VPN Access

In order to access the Math Share Drive from outside of an MPS  worksite, teachers need to apply for VPN (Virtual Private Netowrk) access.  Oh, and with VPN access, its possible to queue your files up on the school copy machine while you work from your kitchen table. Oh, the time you will save!

The application process is:

  • You fill out the MPS VPN Authorization Form
  • In the box labeled: "I am requesting VPN access to do:" enter "Connect to the District Math Share Drive".
  • An e-mail is sent to your principal who will need to sign off on the request
  • You will be contacted by IT Services when the account is set up.

Connecting From Home

Once you have VPN access, the next step is to connect from home.

  • Go to http://vpn.mpls.k12.mn.us using a browser that supports java applications.  (That is to say, Chrome doesn't work) (Figure 1)
  • Login with username and Password. For example, Rob Rumppe would log in with "rorum001".  (Figure 1)

  • Start using the internet as you would from school.  (note: while VPN is running, the same sites blocked at school will be blocked from home.)
  • When you are done and wish to disconnect, find this icon vpn4.png in your taskbar, click it and you will have the option to disconnect from VPN
